Dear APS Members and Guests,

The excitement of “The World Cup” overflowed to APS, where Toastmaster of the Day Manuel Saldana supplied the meeting theme, brought his own soccer ball to demonstrate, and then led the APS team to victory. “Sportsmanship” was the Word of the Day introduced by Laurent Nicourt.

Guest players were Myron Tucker, Ashwin Mundra, and Can Wang.

Jacqueline McIntyre did a storytelling project, “My Favorite Vacation.” Evaluator Eloise Johnny appreciated the story, but wanted more descriptive language.

“Why Not the Best” was the question asked by Todd McKinney. Justin Thomas liked the stories and honesty in the speech, but he wanted a resolution to the underlying ambiguities.

Marcia Chambers gave a sales oriented persuasive speaking project, “May I Help You.” Harry Aneziris liked the challenging role play with Justin Thomas, but felt that the question and answer segment should have been handled more convincingly.

“Nowhere to Somewhere” was a story of perseverance given by Derek Chen. Brian Robinson praised Derek’s integrity and choice of stories, but thought that reiteration of the message was needed throughout.

A freewheeling Table Topics session conducted by Todd McKinney gave every person at the meeting a chance to speak. Ashwin Mundra explained that even though soccer fans may sometimes lack sportsmanship, it is only because they are so passionate about the sport. Can Wang gave her very first Table Topic answer, but proved she is never at a loss for words.

General Evaluator Marcia Berry praised Manuel Saldana for his timely choice of meeting theme. She also led an experienced world class team of her own that included great speech evaluators, Grammarian Laurent Nicourt and Timer Rhoundy Jones.
