Fellow Members,

Club News
  • Following up the announcement at tonight's meeting, our club's VPE and VPM positions have become opened.  I would like to thank Sue for her commitment and involvement as VPE.

  • Both VPE and VPM roles provide wonderful learning experiences.  Are you interested?  Just let me know.  Not sure yet about taking on a role?  Feel free to contact me in order to learn more.

  • We have a new gavel and it's got our name on it!  Literally.  Curious to see it?  Come at the next meeting to see it.

9/28 Meeting Recap
Although there were no speakers on the agenda tonight, we held a lively and thought-provoking Table Topics session under the dynamic leadership of Jose our Table-Topics Master.  All meeting participants got the opportunity to practice their impromptu speaking skills by answering an average of three questions in a row.  Starting with a story-telling Table Topics format, we then went into the Chatpack questions, with a sprinkle of spontaneous questions (if you don't know what Chatpack is, come at the next meeting to find out).  Well done Jose!

Our Timer, Steve, kept us on track, and overall all speakers managed time well.

The Grammarian, Dorcia pinpointed improvements related to grammar, and pronunciation, in addition to counting ahs, ums, etc.  On the latter, speakers fared extremely well.  A good indicator of how well they master public speaking skills.  Good job listening way beyond ahs and ums Dorcia.

The word of the day was "condone": to regard or treat (something bad or blameworthy) as acceptable, forgivable, or harmless.  For example: Advanced Public Speakers doesn't condone mediocrity.

Finally, our General Evaluator, Georgia Jones, provided some actionable feedback to improve the meeting quality.  For instance, the word of the day wasn't displayed prominently enough.  On the other hand she observed that the room had been setup properly before the meeting started, and emphasized that the new gavel (with our name on it!) reflected well on the club.
