Dear APS Members and Friends,

APS conducted a themed meeting on the subject, “Live Debt Free” on Thursday, August 8.  President Gouri Seetharam kicked off the meeting by displaying the riches amassed by APS and its members at the “Hail & Farewell” party.

APS collected a trophy for being a “Perfect 10” club, and VP Education Todd McKinney received a trophy topped with a 5-pointed crown for his triple crown award, signifying that he earned not 3, but 5 educational awards during the 2012-2013 Toastmasters year.  Congratulations APS and Todd!

Georgia took over as Toastmaster of the day and presented the opening speech, “Believe and Be Tenacious.”  She offered the inspiring example of how, by marching to a different drummer and sticking with her beliefs, she was able to pay off her student debt early and throw off the shackles of financial bondage.

Special guest Jason Wisdom then took control of the meeting for a 50-minute interactive workshop in which he guided the group, step by step, in a series of exercises and lessons designed to help us examine our feelings about money, pinpoint problems, and discover the principles and planning steps necessary to work ourselves to financial freedom.  He offered inspiring personal stories, tips, and principles to help the group pay off debt, become financially independent, and plant the seeds for future wealth.

Brian Robinson followed with a serio-comic look at debt in his speech:  “Hi!  I’m Brian... and I’m a Debtor.”  Marcia Berry added her 2 cents with tips for creating a budget, complete with a budget worksheet.

Jason finished with a Q&A session giving participants the chance to ask questions of of the panel members.  We all left with a tip sheet, reading list, and worksheet to help us “Live Debt Free.”
